STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Each week we will have a student in the spotlight. That student will make a poster to tell about him/herself. The poster may include such information as hobbies, family members, vacations, friends, and favorite things. He/she can decorate this poster using photographs, drawings, etc. Many kids in the past have included a display of trophies, ribbons, stuffed animals, etc. .. Be creative and enjoy!
Week of January 14th – Mekhi
We have begun working on getting the facts memorized. Please work several nights a week to get the 2’s and 5’s memorized. We will be testing them each and every day!
We have been reading a fiction story about a boy who both loves and dislikes baseball. We are focusing on the three story elements: character, setting, and plot.
The students have been discussing the Sacrament of Penance. We have had many deep and interesting conversations. The students have learned the names for the two types of sins: venial and mortal.
The three branches of government has been the focus this week. Ask your child to name them and what each branch does.
Our new unit is on informational writing. The children have been studying mentor texts to see how they “tend to go.” We wrote a noticing chart to record our observations.
Please have a talk with your child about topics they know a lot about. That way they will have a good list to choose from in order to write their informational book.
