STUDENT OF THE WEEK
Each week we will have a student in the spotlight. That student will make a poster to tell about him/herself. The poster may include such information as hobbies, family members, vacations, friends, and favorite things. He/she can decorate this poster using photographs, drawings, etc. Many kids in the past have included a display of trophies, ribbons, stuffed animals, etc. .. Be creative and enjoy!
Week of October 21- Kaia
Week of October 28 - Nadia
Please remember to have your child study the list that comes home on Mondays. They need to make corrections on their Practice Test, have it signed and returned on Thursday.
We have been working on comparing numbers using the greater than and less than sign. We also put numbers in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.
A big concept we worked on was the Commutative and Associative Properties of addition!
The students have been reading nonfiction passages about unusual animals in each of the five vertebrate groups. The students learned about the glass frog and butterfly fish.
Our student scientists had the task of using various items to make a block move. They also had to diagram and record their observations.
The students have been discussing being an active member of the Church. We also learned about St. Martin of Tours. The students got many compliments from teachers and adult parishoners about the wonderful job they did leading the Mass!
We are hard at work writing narratives. The focus has been on “showing, not telling.” We are using mentor texts to give examples of how this is done.
The students got a chance to see and touch a real buffalo chip! They had learned that the pioneers used these on the prairie in order to build campfires.
The test for chapter 9 is on Wednesday, October 16th.
