Today we celebrate Earth Day, appreciating this wonderful gift that God has given us. Tomorrow at school, we will spend 20 minutes or so helping to care for the Earth around our school. It would be helpful if your child could bring a plastic bag and even a pair of gardening gloves to help us with our project. We will go out on the playground and the courtyard and pick up all the pinecones that have dropped from the trees, and any other debris that the winter’s snow has left behind. It will be our way to care for the Earth that we use every single day.
The students have begun their final standardized testing session of the school year. The NWEA and the ACT Aspire tests are being administered, and will be completed by the middle of May. Please have your children well rested so they can do their very best on these assessments. Thank you!
How beautiful all the girls looked for their Daddy Daughter Dance! They love getting all dressed up and having a night out with daddy or special someone. I have seen lots of photos from hair and dress preparation, to their 'happy feet' on the dance floor! Thanks to Kelly Mazurek and other PTO members who make this event possible.
Thank you to the Ash family, who is helping with us with the supply of water for the next couple of weeks. We have found a supplier from which we can get reasonably priced water, but had to get an account set up with them before they would deliver water to us. In the meantime, the Ash family has stepped in, and we will continue to have bottled water available for the children at school.
The children had such fun on Thursday celebrating Miss Hirzel! Her mom baked a wedding cake, brought it to school, and served it to each of the children during their lunch hour. Miss Hirzel‘s mom also presented her with a book of advice on marriage from your children, which they had written down last month. One that was particularly cute advised Mr. Clark (Miss Hirzel‘s fiancé) to take good care of her because, “happy wife, happy life! “.
We celebrate our five students who got baptized this month, and also Mrs. Voiles and Mr. Cross, who were Baptized and Confirmed at Easter Vigil. This past week, our second graders received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. God is good!
All of the students who were on the Honor Roll this marking were called onto the altar after Mass on Thursday and recognized for their hard work. We are so proud of them!
Speaking of hard working students, I was also very proud of the Powers Catholic Quiz Bowl Team who competed at the State Championship at Michigan State University this weekend. They placed second in the state, and three of the five members are SJV alum! Congratulations to Willem Connor, Deven Mukkamala, and Nikhil Mukkamala -- your SJV Family is so proud of your accomplishments!
We are proud of each of the children God has led to us, and grateful that you choose to share them with us. Thank you...
Please, God, take care of all of the people in our world.
