Bell Ringer Journal
Students will receive 5-7 minutes at the beginning of class to complete their bell ringer journal. It is imperative that students are in class on time to be able to utilize the entire 5-7 minutes for this assignment. The journal will be due every Monday.
Paragraph of the Week
This week's paragraph of the week is "Always Learning". Students will receive this on Tuesday. The paragraph will be due the following Monday (1/22). Students will receive some time in class to work on their paragraphs. Please refer to the 8th Writing home page to see a guideline on how students can remain on track so as not to fall behind.
This week, students will evaluate four quotes. They will describe how each quote demonstrates either optimism or pessimism.
This week students will be asked to submit a debatable claim with three pieces of evidence-at least one factual and one anecdotal. This assignment is DUE: Friday, January 19.
Research Paper Project Reminders:
1. Works Cited Page (references/bib) DUE: Wednesday, January 17. Students were instructed on how to create a "works cited" or reference page to their paper on Thurs., Nov. 2. They were again reminded how to do this on Wed., Jan 10. This information can be found on pages 662-669 in their textbook.
Students were instructed on how to draft an outline for their paper on Wed., Nov. 1. They also received a sample outline for a research paper on Shakespeare.
Mrs. Hartman and Mr. Cross have been giving the students time in the computer lab to work on their research paper elements.
We will begin studying Adjectives and Adverbs (chapter 5). This week students will do the following:
- Identify and use adjectives in writing
- Identify and use predicate adjectives in writing
- Identify and use pronouns and nouns as adjectives in writing
Students will receive a handout each day practicing these skills. They will receive time in class to complete their work. Unfinished work must be completed and returned the following school day.
