Bell Ringer Journal
Students will receive 5-7 minutes at the beginning of class to complete their bell ringer journal. It is imperative that students are in class on time to be able to utilize the entire 5-7 minutes for this assignment. The journal will be due every Monday.
Paragraph of the Week
We will discuss this week's paragraph of the week "The Pet of My Dreams" on Monday. The paragraph will be due the following Monday (9/25). Students will receive some time in class to work on their paragraphs. Please refer to the 8th Writing home page to see a guideline on how students can remain on track so as not to fall behind.
This week, students will show what they know about the brain, and what they current believe to be true about intelligence. They will receive time in class to complete this assignment. They should not have homework in this journal. The mindfulness journal is collected every Monday and checked for completion.
This week students will understand how poetry is used to reveal and express themselves, in a manner that connects to the world around them.
This week students will continue studying The Sentence and Its Parts (chapter 1). Our focus this week will be on subject complements, objects of verbs, and fragments and run-ons. Students will receive a handout practicing these skills each day. They will receive time in class to complete their work. Unfinished work must be completed as homework and returned the following school day.
Below are the learning objectives for the week:
Monday (9/18): Identify and use subject complements in writing
Tuesday (9/19): Identify and use direct objects and the indirect objects of verbs in writing
Thursday (9/21): Identify and avoid or correct sentence fragments and run-on sentences
*Friday (9/22): Students will complete a practice test in class. We will go over the practice test together. Students should use this test as a guide to study for the final test.
The chapter 1 test on subjects and verbs will be on Monday, September 25.
