We will be having a regular list next week. Reminder….the students that do not get anything wrong on the practice test do not need to take the test on Friday.
We worked on comparing fractions to see which one is greater. The students learned to first look to see if the denominator is the same or different. If it is the same, then they compared the numerator. The larger the numerator, the larger the fraction. If the denominator is different and the numerator is the same, then the fraction with the smaller number is the greater fraction! Ask your child to explain why. Hint: think pizza….
The students finished the unit on fables this week. We read the classic, City Mouse and Country Mouse. We also took the Star Reading assessment.
The 3rd graders did a wonderful leading SJV at Mass this week!
The students have been focusing on writing their narrative in the present tense. It is important to not fall into a “reporter’s voice” but to write with a “storyteller’s voice.”
We continued our study of weather this week. Please have your child watch the local weather reports during the week. ABC 12 weather usually comes on around 5:15ish and 6:15ish. JR Kirtek usually explains the weather quite well. Have your child watch for High and Low pressure systems and listen for weather words such as precipitation.
Our economics unit showed us that God gave us renewable and nonrenewable resources. The children began making a poster to show the definition of each and an illustrated example.
