Students will learn the major principles and patterns of English spelling, learn reliable spelling strategies that they can apply to both familiar and unfamiliar words, master words that are most commonly misspelled, and become aware of the rich network of spelling-meaning relationships that can extend their vocabulary.
Every Thursday students will be assigned three pages from their spelling textbook in which they will practice using the spelling pattern of the week. They will also use each of their basic words in a sentence (20 words = 20 sentences). Students will have one week to complete their assignments. Textbook work and sentences will be due the following Thursday from which they were assigned. Spelling tests will be on the Thursday the assignments are due.
Thursday, September 8: Students will be assigned pages 12-14 in the spelling textbook, which focus on short vowels. Students will also write each of their basic words in an original, well-constructed sentence. These assignments will be DUE: Thursday, September 15.
Thursday, September 15: DUE: Book work p. 12-14 and sentences (20); Spelling Test (each word will be read three times, students will write the word on their test and match each word with its definition).
