The text is published by Scott Foresman. We will study expressions and the number system, equations, functions, geometry concepts, statistics, and probability. There will be hands-on materials and activities used to help reinforce concepts. Students are expected to do the daily homework. Homework quizzes will be after every 2-4 assignments and given about once a week. There will be a class review before tests.
Each class will start with daily questions from the Simple Solutions workbook that most often serve as review and will be checked weekly for progress. Ten questions will be required from each lesson on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays, students will turn in their lessons and take a quiz over the last four lessons.
Students will be responsible for keeping an organized binder that will be checked twice a quarter, for a homework grade. In addition, students will be creating an Interactive Math Journal in which they will create helpful visual aids and respond to the concept on the opposite page. This will also be collected for several grades.
Homework quizzes, Simple Solutions lessons and quizzes, Interactive Journals, and chapter quizzes, and tests make up the quarterly grade for this class. Students will be encouraged to think and problem solve. The priority is fitting in the new in-depth content covered in the Common Core standards that encourage students to explore and write about math.
Students who struggle need to let me know when they need extra help!
- Homework quizzes are to check for homework completion but also require that the student goes back over the mistakes they have made on their homework. Students are encouraged to have me do problems from their homework that they missed.
- Binders need to stay organized.
- Simple Solutions lessons are to be finished at home daily.
