St. John Vianney Catholic School
February 1, 2019
Welcome back to school! We blinked, and it suddenly became February!
Today was spent wrapping up some January activities: our Martin Luther King books, January vocabulary books, as well as some phonics work.
A little bit more about phonics and letter sounds - We are working on a year-long project to celebrate our letter sounds, which will come home at the end of the year. I just wanted to reassure you that we are working on more than a letter puzzle for each sound:)
Read to Grow “Pants” are coming home today! We look forward to these returning with all of those awesome book titles you are reading with your child. These should start coming
Please continue to work on counting to 100 by 1s, 5s, and 10s and to 40 by 2s. We are working on these concepts each day, but practice at home is so important! Thank you!! We are also really attempting to learn our 2D and 3D shapes. We need help with pentagons and a majority of our 3D shapes. We keep wanting to call each one by one of their attributes(square, triangle, etc.) As we keep working, discussing, and find real life connections, I am sure this will all fall into place.
We will also be working on our Classroom project, which has a “You are My Sunshine” theme and will allow each Kindergartner the chance to create a sunshine using and learn about “cubism” in the process - think Picasso-like collages! I am excited! Once you see it, you may wish to put in an outside bid for next week if you are unable to attend:)
Please make sure that your child has an extra set of clothes either to be kept at school or in their backpack in case of an accident.
Permission slips for our trip to McFarlen Village went home last week. Please return these by Tuesday, February 12th Thank you!
