January 12, 2018 In Writing we are working on becoming independent by stretching out our sounds, using our Word Wall and other sources around the room. We also know that it is important to use capital letters to start our sentences and to end each sentence with punctuation. We ask if the sentence is a telling, yelling or asking sentence to help us decide.
We are wrapping up our Unit on Pattern Books. These books will still be available to shop for during Book Stacking time, but we will begin our focus on Reading Strategies next week.
We brought in snowballs earlier this week and made predictions as to how long it would take for them to melt. We talked about how to gage time (40 minutes is how long Gym Class is, we eat lunch for 20 minutes, and prayer with the PK lasts around 10 minutes, etc.) We then checked later to see if our prediction was greater than or less than the 75 minutes it took for them to melt.
We painted snowmen (and snowgirls) and then wrote sentences to describe them.
Auction Basket Theme - The Kindergarten is sponsoring a Lego-themed basket for our Dinner Auction, to be held on Saturday, February 10. What we ask is for a donation of $20.00 or an item with a value of 20.00. These baskets are a part of the Silent Auction portion of our evening.
The items we have so far for our basket are 1 set of Duplos (the kind for the younger kiddos), 2 sets of pink legos sets, and a set of Lego-themed Readers. We also have a monetary donation. This basket theme is a popular one and, many times, the winning bids are more than the value of the basket. If possible, please have donations in by next Thursday, January 18 so that the committee may shop for items.
There will be opportunities in January and early February to get in some volunteer hours by helping wrap the baskets (January 25 during the morning) and February 9 during the day for set-up. We can also use volunteers during the event, as well!
I am planning on having our Valentine’s Day celebration on TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 13, as Wednesday is Ash Wednesday and the start of Lent. We will celebrate at the end of our day, around 2:00, like we did for our Christmas Celebration.
There will be NO SCHOOL next Monday as it is a Record Day. Report Cards will be sent home later at the end of next week. We are doing some “end of the quarter” skills checks:)
Juice/Milk fee for the month of January will be $10.00. This is for both a morning and afternoon drink choice. Thank you for keeping up with this, either daily, weekly, or monthly.
