St. John Vianney Catholic School
September 21, 2018
In Reading Workshop, we are working on the parts of a book, including front/back cover, title page, spine, We also finished up our August/September vocabulary books. We will add these to our “Book Stacking Bags” for use during our “Whisper Reading” portion of our Reading Workshop. We practice retelling, tracking, as well as working on sight words.
Included in Friday folders is a paper plate. This is the first part of our Read and Grow people. What we ask is for you to record books that you read to/with your child. These titles should be written on the back of the paper plate. The other side is to be decorated to look like your child. I have an example of my son’s Read and Grow person in the class for you to look at. This does not need to be fancy: the parts that my son completed with me truly look like a Kindergartner did them:) lol! We will display these in the classroom during the year and will watch as they grow! The “faces” should come into school starting the end of the First Quarter, which is at the end of October! Happy Reading!
In Math, we continue to work on counting and showing “how many” by shading in the correct boxes (left to right/bottom to the top) as well as writing a numeral to indicate “how many”.
We thank God for creating animals! We read about Noah and the ark. We learned that the rainbow is a sign of God’s promise! We had a prayer of thanksgiving, thanking God for some of the wonderful creatures He created!
Thank you for being so awesome and helping your child with the Surprise Bag when it travels to your house:) This is such a great tool to sharpen our deductive reasoning, working together as a team, as well as a ton of good listener/speaker skills. Your children have been so good and encouraging to one another, as another skill learned is how to cheer each other on and to be happy when others succeed!
Please make sure that your child has a full set of clothes that they can change into in case of an accident. Thank you.
Just a reminder that dismissal NEXT FRIDAY is at noon
