WELCOME TO THE FIRST GRADE
Friday, September 6th
Writing: During writing we will be thinking about what a small moment is. We will also begin observing and writing in our "noticings" notebook.
Spelling: The students will be responsible for 10 spelling words each week. The required words are words that are introduced and used in our current reading story. The first 6 words follow a phonetic pattern and the last 4 words are first grade sight words. Please study nightly and write the words neatly and legibally. Have your child use them in sentence. They should understand the meaning. We will work with the words each day but most students will need extra practice at home.
The pretest will be given each Wednesday and the final test will be given on Friday.
Next Weeks words are: back, pack, sack, rack, quack, on, they, what, your
Math:Please have your child practice writing numbers at home. Remember most numbers are created in one fluid movement. Most numbers we start forming from the top and pulling down.
We will begin the year reviewing addition with addition stories. We will also learn about how we can model addition and add with zero. There is nightly homework in math. It should only take a few minutes. Please sit with your child and listen to them as they explain what we learned. THE HOMEWORK IS DUE THE NEXT DAY. Thank you. :-)
Science: The students will be learning about how plants and animals use their external parts to help them survive, grow, and meet their needs. The children had a great time creating their bird feeders. I hope they enjoy them.
Thank you for sending in the toilet paper rolls.
Social Studies: We will learn and think about how our school, community, and family work together.
Religion: During Religion class we will think about how Jesus is the Good Sheherd. We will also practice how to make the Sign of the Cross.
