Reading: Next week the reading selection is New Shoes for Silvia. When Silvia receives a present of red shoes, she can't wait to wear them. But she must be patient until her feet have grown enough to fit in them. The students will think about how it feels to have to "wait" for something. Skills we will focus on include making inferences, using illustrations, analyzing character, context clues, and main idea.

REQUIRED SPELLING SENTENCES:
I park the car in the dark by the star.
Every morning I hear a dog bark.
SPELLING SENTENCES: Two spelling sentences are required for the final quarter of first grade. Students are responsible for spelling all words correctly as well as proper punctuation and capitalization. Each sentence is worth 3 POINTS.
1 POINT= All words spelling correctly
1 POINT= Sentence begins with a capital letter
1 POINT= Proper punctuation is included
Phonics: We will review long vowel sounds and move on to blends.
Math: We will finish working with two dimensional shapes and move on to fractions.
Science: We will continue learning about different forms of weather. We talk about the water cycle.
Religion: We are learning about what life was like after Jesus' death. The students have learned about St. Paul and his conversion.
