*Please make sure to return library books. We have library on Fridays.
*Some students are coming to school with no sweaters or coats. They are cold at recess.
Reading: We have finished our first basal reading book! Most students are doing great! Please read with your child every night. Our next reading selection is: One Good Pup. A boy tries to plan things to do inside with his pup on a rainy day. But, his pup's idea of fun is still to go out and play. Skills we will focus on include: short "u" sound, making inferences, context clues, and summarizing. In creative writing we will write "rainy day stories" and create animal posters.
Phonics: The students will work on the w, c, r, and p sounds.
Spelling: We will work with the spelling words during the week. The words are included in the reading selection for the week. If your child studies the spelling words they will be more successful reading the selection for the week as well as the leveled readers. The pretest will be given on Wednesdays and the final test will be given on Fridays.
Spelling list: but, cut, rug, tug, buck, duck, no, ride, small, out
Handwriting: Next week we will practice writing the letters: o, a, d, c.
Math: Please purchase or make addition and subtraction flash cards for numbers 0-9. We will move on to subtraction number sentences next week.
Science: The students had a great time making their tinfoil boats and counting the pennies until their ship sank.
Social Studies: We will talk about different types of transportation.
Religion: We will continue to learn about the church. The church building is a place where the parish community gathers to celebrate Mass. Your child will learn that Jesus is present when member of our parish pray together. They will also learn about some of the sacred objects found in the church.
