There are so many important happenings at SJV I want to share with you!
First of all, our All-School Academic Fair and Kindergarten/Pre-K Open House is this Thursday, March 15, from 5:00-7:00 pm. Please bring your friends and family to see examples of the wonderful work your children are doing! Mrs. McCartney, Mrs. Voiles and Mrs. Bell, and Miss Nancy will be available to explain to families the valuable Early Childhood opportunities we have for their younger children. Please join us!
Registration papers and tuition information for the 2018-19 school year were sent home on Friday. I will also post the info on our website today under the 'Information' tab. Please return the completed paperwork as soon as possible to that we can make plans for staffing and for textbooks needed. Students do have to be registered for their FACTS Tuition Assistance applications to be reviewed.
As you know, the link to the FACTS Application (for tuition assistance) is on the website in the section that is titled "Helpful Links and Resources," located right below "St. John Vianney News." The verified applications (meaning all supporting documents have been submitted) will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee beginning April 1st. Applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed until all available funds have been awarded.
Congratulations to the winners of Farm Bureau's 'American and Me' Essay Contest! Ramla won First Place, Alyssa Lince won Second Place, and Tessa placed Third. Ramla's essay will be forwarded for judging at the State level later this spring. Great writing talent, young ladies!
Congratulations, also, to the winners of the 7th & 8th grade raffle to support the students' upcoming trip to Washington D.C.! The Grades and Streby families won First and Second place prizes! Third place was won by a friend of one of our families. Thank you to everyone who supported this endeavor -- the visit to D.C. is a very important component to the education of our middle school students.
Our SchoolStore.com undertaking is very successful to date! Almost 40 students are participating, and they are responsible for over 60 gift cards being donated to purchase materials for their classroom, and additional funds being raised for SJV by on-line purchases made through the School Store.com website. I had some items I wanted to purchase from Kohl's, and rather than go to the store, I ordered the items on-line through the SchoolStore website -- a percentage of the cost was donated back to our school! I shared the website and our school code (9504) with my sisters, and they are going to do the same. "Easy peasy!"
At the end of this month, one of the students who signed up at SchoolStore.net, sent out their email invitations, and returned their envelope, will win BOB, a radio controlled, Minion Robot that 'walks and talks.' Way fun!!
Practice for Spring Sports will begin soon. Girl's softball teams will be formed for 5/6 & 7/8, and boy's baseball teams for 5/6 & 7/8 will also be formed. As a larger number of players are needed to field these teams, we will combine with students from St. Pius Catholic School. More info soon!
On Saturday, March 24, from 12:00 pm until 2:30 pm, the SJV Catholic Church Angel's Outreach Program is hosting a Children's Easter Egg Party in our school gym. It is for ages 3-12, and children must be accompanied by an adult. They will color real eggs, have refreshments and door prizes, and the Easter Bunny is going to visit. All are welcome!
This week, our All-School Mass is going to be on Friday rather than Thursday. Immediately following Mass, we will participate in the Stations of the Cross, a special devotional prayer to help us recall the tremendous love of Jesus Christ as He suffered and died for our salvation. Come pray with us...
During the month of March, I have been recognizing students who have been nominated for goodness awards. As classmates see their friends doing something kind, they report that kindness to me. Congratulations to Michael, Justin, Sarai, Declan, Domicella, Jaidyn D, Rasheem, Athena, Abby, and Sierra S, who have each been awarded a certificate reading "_____________ is the reason someone believes in the GOODNESS of others."
Please, God, let each of us be the reason someone believes in the goodness of others...
