We had another wonderful week at SJV! Football, basketball, Running Club, our 7/8 grade band joining other GCCS schools in concert with the Powers band, Altar Servers trained, the Troubadours from the Flint Institute of Music/Flint Symphony in concert for grades K-5, Special Person Day, Mass at Powers, All-school Cross Country Meet -- many activities and opportunities available to your children in addition to their classroom responsibilities.
I loved meeting more extended family and friends at Special Persons Day, and your children were so happy to share part of their day with people that they love. We are always happy to 'show off' SJV and all that we do. Thank you to Nikki Correll, Shay Oliver, Christina Hilden, Kim Cole, and Diane Ruddy for handling the refreshments, and thank you to all who joined us!
The Football team completed their season UNDEFEATED -- hurray for our hard-working Vikings and their Head Coach, Mr. Morrison!
There were many students running on Monday and Tuesday with Coach Jill Jenkins. If your child wants to join Running Club, they still can! There is always more room for more children who want to get additional exercise and train for the Turkey Trot.
The window for NWEA Fall testing closed this past week, and we will soon be able to access the results. The teachers look forward to examining this data so we can see where the students are excelling, and pinpoint what support they need.
It was a beautiful fall day on Friday, a perfect day for the Middle School students and their teachers to walk 'down the street' to Powers Catholic to celebrate Mass. Students from all of the Genesee County Catholic Schools gathered together to praise God as a unified family. Kettering Security cars and Powers Security cars escorted the students to block traffic at the intersections, and Flint Motorcycle Policemen met them at Court Street to block traffic at that larger intersection. Thank you to Mr. Simms making all of the arrangements. Thank you, God, for the support from our community for our endeavors!
Saturday evening is one of the favorite events of the year, especially for our younger students -- the PTO Halloween Party/Dance! Trunk-or-Treat in the parking lot at 5:30, followed by the party in the Social Hall. A flyer was sent home with your children last week - check it for more details and come and join the fun!
Incredibly, Friday is the end of our first quarter of the school year. We have been providing Responsibility Room for the last two weeks for your older students to complete any missing assignments. They are about out of time to do those assignments that they have neglected to complete -- Monday is the day to turn them in!
Monday, October 30, is Record Day for teachers. Students have no class that day. And on Tuesday, Oct. 31, our new hours begin -- school will dismiss at 3:30 each day.
The weather is to turn colder on Monday. Please be sure to send jackets with your children as we will be going outside for recess every day that it is not raining.
Please, God, take care of all of the people in our world,
