St. John Vianney Catholic School

This week we continued our alphabet recognition review. We worked on shapes, scissor skills, fine motor tasks, and following directions.
Please continue to help your child practice counting to 100, with attention given to the “teens”. I have noticed we struggle through these numbers and can use some extra help at home:)
We attended Mass for the first time on Thursday. We even took a field trip on Wednesday afternoon with the 8th grade class to practice walking over to church and to practice some Mass Etiquette. We are so blessed to have a ton of support for all that we do in Kindergarten!
After a few weeks of eating in our classrooms, we are now transitioning back into the cafeteria. We are practicing procedures and are going slowly. Thank you to all of the recess parents, cafeteria staff, Mrs. Black, and Ms. Marshall for assisting us. It takes a village! We are grateful!
Please help us out by making sure that your child has 2 healthy snacks each day and that these snacks are packed in their backpacks. I know that this adds a ton of extra for you to do, but it helps your child be independent and able to find their snacks each day. Thank you so much!
We are spending a lot of time practicing how to correctly form letters and numbers. Phrases we hear a lot are “start up high and pull down straight”. We are singing songs and doing exercises that are reinforcing the “top to bottom; left to right” concept that will help us when we read and write. We are also doing “cross body” exercises that will help our “reading” brains, as well. It may sound silly, but it truly works!
We are working on color recognition as well as color words.
