Hello SJV Musicians!
Welcome Back, Musicians!
Here are some important dates to remember throughout the school year!
Christmas Concert - Wednesday, December 14: 7pm @ SJV
Spring Concert -Wednesday, May 31: 7pm @ SJV
Below are the band grading policies.
Band Grading Policies
Students are expected to participate in all class activities and to follow individual and group discussion. This grade also includes participation in concerts and/or festivals that are part of the school calendar. Concerts are the culmination of hard work and practice and give the students the opportunity to display the musical skills that have gained.
We are a team – because of this if one person misses a performance, the entire group is affected. Students will receive a failing grade for the concert participation portion of the grade if a required performance is missed. (If there are extenuating circumstances, please contact me as soon as the situation arises. Each situation will be determined on an individual basis.) In addition, the only way to make up a missed concert grade for any reason is by writing a 2 page typed report on a musical subject which must first be approved by Mrs. Felt.
Participation will also include five points given daily in band class. Most students get full credit every day! Please refer to your grading scale sheet for a more thorough break down of these points.
Each student will receive daily points for bringing essential materials to class. In band, individual instruments, music, band folders, band methods books, pencils, reeds, and drum sticks/mallets for percussionist are expected to be brought to band class every day. In choir, students should be timely with music in hand ready to go at the beginning of rehearsal.
Please refer to the next page for more specific materials that should be brought to band class on a daily basis.
Individual Playing Tests/Quizzes and Assignments
Throughout the school year, several individual and group playing or singing tests will be given. In addition, various written assignments or quizzes over music theory/history or other musical skills will be given throughout the school year. These scores will be averaged to account for 30% of the student’s overall music grade.
